The Molato Story

Molato comes from the dialect of Congolese - Lingala meaning 'the art of dressing.’ The project has come together through the support of a small group of community people and members of Rural Australians for Refugee’s, (R.A.R.) with the aim being to support Nicole Dilubenzi and her children into our community. The group is assisting Nicole in establishing a career and income stream through her skills as a Fashion Designer and Dressmaker. With support and guidance from Echuca’s R.A.R, Nicole and her children have settled in Echuca, the children are attending St Mary’s Catholic Primary School.

Nicole Dilubenzi, is a Congolese refugee who was living in Namibia with her husband Chicco, and their 3 children. Chicco was working for the government as a doctor at the time when they waiting on Visa’s for a family holiday to Australia to investigate opportunities for immigration, when Chicco went missing. Nicole chose to proceed with the journey to Australia to escape the unsafe conditions in which they were living.

Securing the Moama Bowling Club as Molato Project’s major partner, the date is set for the gala event Friday, October 11th, 2019 to be held the ‘The Venue’ at Moama Bowling Club.

The Molato event will not only showcase Nicole designs and styles also St Joseph’s College Design and Textiles students will hit the catwalk in their designs.

The Molato collection is a set of samples for future sales, which would start Nicole’s small business. You can make a private appointment with Nicole on the evening.

Sewing mends Nicole’s soul, the Molato Project has built beautiful friendships. Don’t miss this event!
