Overview

Stylish boutique accommodation in a beautiful historic house. Oak Dene has welcomed guests for 110 years and you are warmly invited to share in this tradition.

Description

Oak Dene was built in 1908 for Dr and Mrs John Wight as a home and surgery. It is a unique building, being entirely surfaced in corrugated iron, inside and out. It is encircled by deep verandas and it sits amid tranquil lawns and trees. Our home is a retreat-like place that is ideal for a restful weekend or longer break, small conferences and as a base for wedding preparation and photography. The magnificent London Plane tree is on the National Trust’s register of significant trees. The accommodation suite comprises a double and a twin bedroom, and a further fold-out bed. The sitting room is large and gracious, the dining room comfortably seats eight and the kitchen is fully equipped. This leads to a private veranda, garden and BBQ. There is a large bathroom, utility room and second wc and the main rooms are heated and cooled. The twin bedroom is wallpapered – a technical feat over ripple iron. It is a rare survivor from early last century and is showing its age. Your host lives in a separate wing of the house. Both parts are fully self-contained but share the entrance veranda and carport. Oak Dene is situated in a cul-de-sac where bird chatter is usually the only intrusion.
