Echuca Moama’s award-winning The Great Aussie Beer Shed & Heritage Farm Museum has so much to offer, and a recent ‘well known’ addition has seen it firmly established as a MUST see for visitors to our riverside community.
After national brewing giant Carlton and United Breweries (CUB) recently announced its famous Clydesdale and lorry team would be retired after 65 years, Beer Shed operators Neil and Andrea Thomas threw their hat in the ring to secure the lorry – an iconic slice of Australian brewing history – as a permanent fixture in their ever-expanding museum.
After a lengthy application process, the famous lorry was delivered to the Beer Shed in June 2018, and CUB was thrilled to find an ideal home for an important part of its brewing history.
For Echuca Moama it’s a match made in heaven for this nostalgic beer-loving venture, and complements the Beer Shed’s burgeoning beer related collection from across Australia and around the world!
The Beer Shed opened in 2003 and is billed as the number one tourist attraction in Echuca on Trip Advisor.
Located only 3km from Echuca’s CBD, it is a unique and entertaining tourist attraction, displaying more than 20,000 beer cans and an eclectic collection of beer-related items including tap tops, handles, barrels, bottles, signs, brewery manufacturing equipment and machinery.
And is also now the perfect home for the retired CUB lorry, which you may have seen travelling around the state over the years, at events such as Moomba, the AFL Grand Final and Melbourne Cup.
The original CUB lorry was built in the 1940s and made famous by its four magnificent Clydesdale horses, towing a load of beer barrels.
Refurbished two years ago, the lorry has visited Echuca Moama on many occasions, calling into local hotels on its way to the Echuca Racecourse on Melbourne Cup Day.
The legendary lorry is now on permanent display at the Beer Shed, located at 377 Mary Ann Road in Echuca, and is a welcome addition to a recently opened car display at this much-loved site.
Jack’s Shed, named after Neil’s late father, was opened in September 2017 and houses a collection of classic cars, scheduled to change constantly thanks to a collaborative partnership with Echuca’s National Holden Motor Museum.
