The Long Paddock Touring Route

The Long Paddock - Cobb Highway Touring Route follows the Cobb Highway (named for the famous coach company) from Echuca Moama on the Victorian border, through to Wilcannia leading to the iconic outback towns of Bourke, Broken Hill & White Cliffs.

The Long Paddock is the colloquial term for the stock routes that cross Australia - open stretches of unfenced land that anyone can use to move stock or feed in times of drought. The Long Paddock Touring Route takes visitors through some of the most unique landscapes in Australia including the Hay Plains renowned as the flattest place in the southern hemisphere. It also crosses some of the most historically important agricultural country in Australia.

The Long Paddock is an easy drive and accessible by caravan, car or 4WD. The route passes through the well known towns of Echuca Moama, Deniliquin and Hay which have all the goods and services that visitors can expect from large country twins. They also offer significant visitor attractions such as the internationally renowned Australian Shearers Hall of Fame - Shear Outback in Hay.

The Long Paddock also passes through some of the most character filled villages in Australia. These little townships of between 30 and 70 people provide visitors with a glimpse of life in country communities. Make sure you stoop and have a cuppa or a beer in Mathoura, pretty Pine, Wanganella, Booroorban, Boolligal and Ivanhoe where you will be welcomed with a smile and can get a real feel for life in the bush.
