Authentic Murray River Cruises

Enjoy one of our majestic Murray River Cruises at an ambling speed aboard the world’s only accommodated wood-fire paddlesteamer. PS Emmylou seamlessly blends the old with the new to offer authentic luxury Murray river cruises that immerse you in a bygone era but with modern-day comforts.

The old saying ‘it’s the journey, not the destination’ is indeed true for all our cruises offered as all-inclusive experiences. You’ll feel the warmth of the 1906 steam engine as the engineer stokes the boiler, you can climb into the wheelhouse to chat to the skipper, or just sit and gaze at the changing reflections in the water. Whether you’re captivated by the river, the region’s pioneering history or you’re yearning for relaxation, PS Emmylou Murray river cruises offers it all.

As PS Emmylou, or Emmy as the locals call her, gracefully steers past the twin townships of Echuca Moama and surrounding properties, her celebrity-like status is clear. Children wave to the steamer in the hope of a river greeting whistle, and fishermen in tinnies tip their caps and give a wave to the skipper as they cast their lines.

With a maximum of 16 guests and four crew, the only crowds you’ll experience are the flocks of Australian White Ibis feeding in the marshes, Kingfishers hunting for a meal, and mobs of kangaroos. If you’re lucky, you may spot a few long-necked turtles warming themselves on a fallen River Red Gum too.

The old-timer cruiser, powered by a 116-year-old steam engine, provides a warm inviting atmosphere of a mid-1800s riverboat but without sacrificing modern conveniences. Each luxury cabin has a private ensuite, is individually air-conditioned, has WIFI and opens directly onto the paddle steamer’s large timber decks.

Choose Your River Cruise

We are delighted to launch our biggest-ever program of overnight cruises for 2023-24, with a new brochure showcasing, for the first time, an entire year of back-to-back cruises on the Murray and longer journeys in response to record-high demand for multi-day cruises on Australia’s longest and most famous river.

From April 1, 2023, the enchanting Emmylou, will offer three-night ‘Discovery’ cruises along the meandering Murray River, one-way from Echuca to Torrumbarry Weir, plus four-night ‘Explorer’ cruises one-way back to Echuca, with guests able to combine the different itineraries to book our all new seven-night ‘All the Rivers Run’ journeys round-trip from Torrumbarry Weir – the longest itinerary ever for Emmylou.

These new cruises allow our guests a more immersive and varied experience, with new, complimentary coach transfers between Echuca and Torrumbarry Weir included in fares. Our existing cruises operate as scheduled until 31st March 2023.
