Description

It’s not every day you get to choose your mode of transport to a winery that was established over 140 years ago. Well that’s what is unique about Cape Horn Vineyard and Riverside Bar.

We have had cellar door guests arrive by many forms of transport including boats and paddlesteamers, on horseback and by helicopter. Of course, there is also the convenience of the 15-minute drive from Echuca by car and we offer a courtesy bus for groups of 10 or more.

The well signed drive along 8km of sealed road and 6km of gravel road leads to a stunning, secluded and peaceful setting with wide water frontage, picnic lawn and vineyard surrounds.

Named after the riverbed resembling Cape Horn on the southern tip of South America, Cape horn Vineyard is located on a sand hill wedged between the Murray and Goulburn Rivers.

The Vineyard was first established in the 1870’s serving the thriving River Boat trade as a half way point between Echuca and Barmah and as a popular picnic spot for local day trippers.

The Vineyard was re-established in 1994 with the planting of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Durif and Marsanne vines.

On arrival you will be rewarded with a delightful experience free tasting our award-winning wines in our comfortable floor to ceiling glassed cellar door. External to the cellar door you can choose to relax on the Riverside Deck equipped with large umbrellas and mist fans, or heaters, depending on the season. Our extensive lawn area is perfect for a family/friend’s picnic where you are welcome to bring your own nibbles and drinks for the kids (sorry, no BYO alcohol). There is a wonderful playground for the young ones and a giant chess board and games to play including finska, cricket or boule.

Our renowned Wood Fired Pizzas are a MUST when you visit, and you can accompany your pizza with our dip plate and generous cheese platter.

We have a fully stocked bar for those who may prefer an alternative to wine and tea and coffee are also available.

Cape Horn Vineyard is open every weekend with music on one or both days (refer to the Music Calendar on our website). We are also open during Victorian School Holidays or by prior arrangement.

You will be delighted when you arrive at Cape Horn Vineyard and take in our beautifully natural river-gum forest setting. The hours, like the river, will just flow by.
