Wine
Although relatively new, Echuca-Moama’s wine region is gaining a reputation as one of the best winegrowing districts in the country.
Echuca-Moama is a haven for wine connoisseurs, with more than 800 hectares of vines flourishing with new growth each year. The area is best known for its shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay. Nearby Heathcote also has a flourishing wine industry. With rich soils, the area is known for producing some of the world’s best shiraz.
The first of the modern winemakers to arrive in the area was Tisdalls. Since then, a number of wineries have made their mark on the district, many of which come highly- recommended. Echuca-Moama is surrounded by wineries. Morrisons is situated just on the outskirts of Moama and Cape Horn Vineyard is about 20 minutes east of Echuca by car or 30 minutes by speedboat. Carriages Vineyard is about 20km west of town, while Monichino Wines is in Katunga, an hour drive east of Echuca. Head south to sample the wares at Heathcote’s Mount Burrumboot Estate winery.
A number of these wines can be found at Murray Esplanade Cellars, in the port area, but others can only be found at the cellar door. Why not leave the car at home. We have a variety of companies that offer you guided wine tours.
