2015 Murray Charity Meander

Tuesday, February 17, 2015

Good luck to all the participants in this year's Murray Charity Meander starting on 20 Feb. What a great way to explore the Murray River. Make sure you're in Echuca Moama to cheer them home on Feb 28.

This is not a race, more a contest of wits, ingenuity & social endurance and is an excellent opportunity for community minded people to raise funds for cancer support and enjoy a week long trip on the magnificent Murray River.

The event consists of a fleet of tinnies travelling along the length of The Murray River in three one week stages over 3 years. In 2011 we completed our second 2500km journey from the alps to the sea. 2014 sees the event travel the last leg of the Murray Meander completing leg number three. That will be approximately 7,500kms of mighty Murray River navigated so far.

2015 Murray Charity Meander
This is a tentative itinerary and is subject to change.

Fri. Feb 20th - Colac Colac

Sat. Feb 21st - Bringenbrong Bridge to Tintaldra - 45km

Suitable only for smaller craft, no other ramp available between Khancoban & Tintaldra, should take 5 - 6 hours. Lack of experience and complacency can prove very dangerous. Buddy up with another team.

Sun. Feb 22nd - Tintaldra to Walwa - ?km

Shallow upper Murray should take 5 - 6 hours depending on river conditions.

Mon. Feb 23rd - Walwa to Hume Weir - ?km
Long day starting with shallow & narrow river and ending with lake crossing. Higher river levels than previously years should make this easier.

Tues. Feb 24th - Hume Weir to Corowa - 139km

Good idea to read the river charts before you set out in the boat & have some idea of what lies ahead.

Wed. Feb 25th - Corowa to Yarrawonga - 88km

Easy through interesting bit of river approaching Bundalong & the Lake. Great day for fishing or punch ahead & play golf.

Thurs. Feb 26th - Yarrawonga to Tocumwal - 109km
Lots of sandbars, areas of shallow river and large snags. Make sure you arrive on time or earlier. There is plenty to do at this oasis.

Friday Feb 27th - Tocumwal to Mathoura (Swifts Creek) - 102km
First half of the journey will be similar to yesterday then through The Narrows & past Barmah Lakes.

Sat. Feb 28th - Mathoura (Swifts Creek) to Echuca - 63km
Final leg past Goulburn River junction & into historic Port of Echuca. An easy day.

Important Bits & Bobs

- If our friends at the Bureau are correct (and occasionally they are), the weekend is going to be a warm one. With this in mind it's especially important to stay hydrated, remember to keep applying the sunscreen and bring a hat. From our end we'll be making sure there's plenty of market umbrellas and misting fans dotted around the site, and of course we'll have free water available all weekend.

FOOD & DRINK - You are most welcome to bring your own food, soft drink and bottled water into the Festival Hub. Unfortunately you are not permitted to bring any alcohol into the venue as we are fully licensed. A superb selection of regional food items will be available from our Festival kitchens across the weekend, and our two well-stocked bars will serve a range of beer, wine, RTD spirits and soft-drink.

CHAIRS, UMBRELLAS & ESKIES - For the benefit of everyone trying to see the stage please help us out by ensuring your chairs are as low to the ground as possible - picnic rugs are even better. For obvious reasons we can't allow you to bring in large umbrellas or shade structures as it simply means you'll block the view for others.

We're happy for you to bring eskies into the venue, however our friendly security staff will ask for a quick look inside upon arrival.

- You are free to come and go as many times as you like from the Festival hub during our opening hours, however you MUST keep your wristband on - replacement wristbands will not be issued.

Riverboats Music Festival - 13-15 February 2015

Friday, December 19, 2014

The Riverboats Music Festival is the Murray's premiere contemporary music event.       Our Festival takes place under towering river red gums in a natural amphitheatre next to the mighty Murray River, here in Echuca Moama.

Historic paddlesteamers meander past all weekend and occasionally the cockatoos get a bit raucous at sunset. We have one stage and plenty of room for dancing, brilliant artists and delicious regional food and wine.

It's probably one of the prettiest, inexpensive, laid-back, family friendly festivals in Australia - you'll love it.

2015's lineup includes: Dan Sultan, Sarah Blasko, Tex Perkins and the Dark Horses, The Whitlams, Diesel, The Bamboo's, Mick Harvey, Adalita, Fraser A Gorman, Sal Kimber and the Rollin' Wheel, Matt Walker and the Lost Ragas, Stella Angelico and Raised By Eagles.

In 2015 the Riverboats Music Festival will take place from Friday 13 February to Sunday 15 February with future festivals held on the third weekend in February each year.

The Riverboats Music Festival is an Echuca Moama Regional Tourism event, proudly produced by Full Dress Productions.
