About Echuca Moama Tourism
Echuca Moama & District Tourism Development Association Incorporated (EMDTA) is a non-profit Incorporated Association with over 330 members drawn from businesses, individuals and organisations committed to growing the tourism industry in the Echuca-Moama region.
EMDTA has the support of the Shire of Campaspe and Murray Shire Council.
There is not a business, professional service or commercial operation in our region that does not ultimately receive some share of the revenue contributed to the local economy by tourism and its associated economic benefits. It is in the direct interest of all those who benefit from tourism to participate in and contribute to the effective promotion of the entire region and the planned management of its marketing activities.
EMDTA’S PURPOSE
EMDTA HAS A VISION TO INCREASE VISITATION AND LENGTH OF STAY,
RESULTING IN AN ECONOMIC BENEFIT TO THE REGION.
The greater the EMDTA membership base, the more marketing power there is to attract and retain visitors. Increased visitation
benefits all local businesses and the community as a whole.
PUT SIMPLY, THE BIGGER THE PIE (I.E. THE MORE VISITORS), THE LARGER YOUR SLICE WILL BE!
Currently, fierce competition exists between regional destinations all working frantically to attract visitors. Echuca Moama must
raise the required marketing funds to adequately promote the destination and be the first choice destination of potential visitors.
TOURISM: HELPING TO BUILD OUR COMMUNITY
Tourism generates economic benefits for Echuca Moama and district in many different ways, through both direct spending
(resulting in business profitability and employment growth) and indirect spending (where money continues to circulate throughout
the community).
A STRONG TOURISM SECTOR LEADS TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF NEW BUSINESSES AND COMMERCIAL ACTIVITIES, AS THE EXPECTATIONS AND NEEDS OF VISITORS GENERATE OPPORTUNITIES TO FILL NEW GAPS.
As the tourism industry strengthens, not only does employment and business growth occur for those primarily involved in the
tourism industry, other sectors such as construction, transport, retail and many support industries also experience growth and the
need to employ local people.
For many visitors, tourism can act as a preview to the area’s lifestyle. Echuca Moama has many examples of residents who first
came to the area as visitors before making the wise decision to relocate, thereby increasing demand for housing and other services.
Many of these residents now encourage their friends and family to visit and so the cycle continues.
A strong Tourism Industry can also lead to improved community facilities such as transport services, sporting and recreational facilities, as well as things like restaurants and entertainment options. Local
community pride, as well as preservation of a community’s heritage can also be positives resulting from a strong tourism industry.
Tourism can often be responsible for increased interest in and concern for the natural and built environment and its condition.
Tourism has also provided an economic argument for the conservation, preservation and restoration of some of Echuca Moama’s
natural and built resources.
