Potential for bike tourism

Bicycle tourism had great potential in the Echuca district, but needed to be pursued from
many angles including by private enterprise, according to Echuca-Moama and District Tourism Association
marketing manager Simon Latchford.
Bike rider Rhonda Sutton agreed much more could be done for riders in the district for residents and visitors.
With her husband, Peter, and two daughters, Mrs Sutton has ridden several bike trails, including Wangaratta to
Bright, Gippsland's coastal Bass trail from Wonthaggi to Kilcunda and around Ballarat.
She cobbled together a ride from Echuca to Morrison's winery restaurant in Moama with a return trip by
paddlesteamer and is organising a weekend for Echuca-Moama Bushwalkers Club, along the Ballarat to Skipton
trail.
``As a family, we deliberately seek places which have bike trails and go there for a holiday because of that. It's
been the attraction,'' Mrs Sutton said.
``It's a healthy holiday where you can have a lovely holiday and get fit at the same time.
``On trails, you feel safe because you are separated from the road.''
