Murray Air Access
At this stage the draft tender document is currently being finalized and will be completed and advertised by the 29th of January, with the first formal group meeting planned for late February. The primary purpose of which will be to determine and appoint the tenderer/contractor.
CARnival
Carnival is proceeding well with insurance company Shannons signing up as a major sponsor.
Shannons has been a long time sponsor of the CAMS National motorsport series.
There will still be a media conference held in Echuca and we are awaiting a date from the Ministers office. The next planning meeting is in Melbourne on the18th of January 2010.
Victorian Orchestra
An agreement to host this famous orchestra here for 3 years has been reached by EMT.
The cost per concert is $50,000.00 the full amount of which will be underwritten by the Victorian Government cultural grant funding.
The details are being finalized this week with venues being established.
This is a great new opportunity for the region with a positive flow on benefit to youth as well as the community generally.
The date for the 2010 event is Wednesday the 3rd of March.
Seminar Dates
We have now locked in the dates for the next three EMT member training seminars as follows:
* International Marketing-Monday 1st Feb
* Pricing & Packaging-Tuesday 2nd Feb
* Exceptional Customer Service-Thursday 6th May
Our host will be Rich River Golf Club. Morning tea and lunch will be provided. A separate booking form will be sent out to members next week.
Food & Wine Development Group
The Food and Wine Development Group met this week with attention now turning to the March Melbourne Food & Wine Festival Autumn Harvest Festival planning.
We have been generating considerable marketing reach from this group including the on-going public relations with the AGE/Epicure and famils, one of which has taken place this week.
Caravan & Camping Shows
We need to maintain our position in this market and as such we have committed to attending Adelaide Caravan & Camping Show in February and the Melbourne Caravan & Camping Show in March.
Mildura are not participating in any shows this year so I see it as an opportunity for us to claw back some market share. Further, the market has been quite robust recently with families appearing in large numbers, and whilst the accommodation spend is low the attractions and food spend is high.
The partners in this co-operative marketing are Echuca Moama, Swan Hill, Moira, Corowa and Gannawarra.
Wedding Expo-Melbourne
EMT has joined with the Wedding Group to participate with a stand at the Melbourne Wedding Expo on the 16th & 17th January at the Exhibition Building.
The stand will be staffed by EMT and a wedding group representative. This will be a great opportunity to further promote the wedding industry in Echuca Moama.
Brochure Distribution
Having covered Victoria and Southern NSW over my break it has become obvious to me that regional tourism brochure distribution is very poor, including our region.
There is a great opportunity here for us to gain considerable advantage over our regional competitors by creating an appropriate brochure distribution system and needs to include everything from the Official Visitors Guide to wedding, food & wine, attractions and festivals/events.
Most information spends its life in boxes and dark rooms which clearly isn’t any use at all.
Stay tuned for opportunities to participate in this.
EMT Website
There have been some significant improvements made to the site over the Christmas break including the Official Visitors Guide download process and button, call to action ‘’hot deals’’ button and a general clean up in response to the Position Me On Line reports. I encourage you to revisit the site and have a look.
Public Relations
We have been generating some excellent Public Relations over the past month with consumers seeing consistent information regarding our region. Some examples are as follows:
* Sun Herald Escape-Front cover
* Epicure-full page non paid article
* Epicure advertisement-full page
* Sun Herald-full page advertisement
* AGE-Famil for journo-weekend magazine articles
* Sun Herald 3 day journo famil-just completed
* Press general-several including air access, CARnival, Orchestra, etc.
V Line/RJFW/EMT Promotional Opportunity-Melbourne
Thursday the 28th of January will see EMT in the Southern Cross Railway Station, together with a live jazz band promoting the RJFW Festival and simultaneously using the opportunity to promote the region.
Echuca named in Victoria top holiday destination list
Top holiday on-line booking website Wotif.Com has announced its top 10 holiday destinations for 2009.
Echuca came in 5th on a star studded list with notable destinations Mildura, Bendigo, Phillip Island and the Great Ocean Road behind.
Wotif General Manager Megan Magill said it was great to see regional areas high on the list.
The top runners were Melbourne and Geelong with Melbourne taking first honours.
Echuca Moama Tourism’s Simon Latchford was delighted at the result particularly to be in front of quality destinations such as Mildura and Bendigo and is further proof that Echuca Moama is indeed a fantastic destination that is currently punching well above its weight.

Port of Echuca Revitalisation
The Premier of Victoria John Brumby announced this week a three way partnership including the Australian Government, Victorian Government and Shire of Campaspe to fund a $14.2 million refurbishment of the Port of Echuca.
This is fantastic news for the entire region and recognition from the Government(s) that the tourism industry and its future in our region is being taken very seriously.
AMBASSADOR PROGRAM
It is with great pleasure that EMT advises that we have been successfull in obtaining the following grants for the implementation of the new Ambassador program for the Visitors Information Centre.
* Depart of Planning and Community Development = $5,000
* Echuca Moama Community Enterprise = $4,000
A great outcome and the start of a new and exciting EMT initiative.
