Stay 3 Pay 2 Campaign

EMT is thrilled to be working with EMAA on a major winter campaign that will target metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. The campaign will be themed ‘Stay 3, Pay 2’ and it will be available for the June - July period.

The advertising campaign for this execution will commence May 13. Approximately 70% of the investment will go into Melbourne metro with the balance into regional Victoria.

Melbourne will be a mix of print media (full page advertisement in The Age) and radio will be the city’s number 1 station, Fox FM.

From a regional standpoint, we will be focussing on television where we will invest in the Shepparton and Bendigo windows.

In addition to traditional media, we will activate a social marketing campaign using our Facebook Fan Page and Twitter to compliment our investment.

The call to action for the ‘Stay 3 Pay 2’ commercials will be the toll free number and the EMT website. A button on the homepage of the EMT website will then link to a list of all the operators who are participating in this campaign.

There is no cost to submit an offer for this campaign. If you would like to participate, please contact ingrid@echucamoama.com no later than 5pm Wednesday 9th May.

Amazing Race

This February prepare yourself for the Campaspe Young Professionals Network (CYPN) Amazing Race…

In light of the popularity of the Yahoo!7 “Amazing Race”, the CYPN committee have decided to hold a scaled down version of the race Sunday, February 26.

The event, likened to a scavenger hunt, will be conducted across the Echuca port area, incorporating local businesses and service groups to assist in the running of the event.

This aims to give local businesses the chance to promote themselves while contributing to the local Echuca Moama Search and Rescue Squad, a local organisation, run by volunteers and funded by community sponsorship and donations.

Each year the network aims to bring events to its members which are not only fun, but also assist with individuals’ personal and professional development.

The Network feel this will be a great way for individuals to build on personal and leadership skills, while socialising with like-minded individuals.

For more information on participating in the event, or if you would like to make a donation or assist with the running of the event, please contact Ashlea Kunowski on 0407 076 244.

Major Television, Radio and Print Winter Campaign

EMT‘s major Winter Campaign that is targeting Melbourne Metro with an overlap into key regional markets in Victoria will end tomorrow.

The purpose of this campaign was to drive business to the region during the traditionally quieter months.

The campaign included a ‘Stay 3, pay 2’ offering which commenced in the market early July and saw television advertisements across commercial stations regionally, 3AW radio in Melbourne and half page advertisements in the Bendigo Advertiser to create traffic in weekend and short getaway markets.

Thank you to all our 26 accommodation operators who participated in this joint effort.
We will share the results of this campaign in the next edition.

Cellar Door Farm Gate

The Melbourne Food and Wine Festival is the premier food, wine and produce event in Australia.

The ‘’Cellar Door & Farm Gate’’ event is a component of the overall Melbourne Food & Wine Festival. It is an outdoor spectacular held on the banks of the Yarra River in Melbourne and is designed to showcase Victorian food, wine and produce interests to consumers, industry and media.

EMT participated in this exciting opportunity last year in partnership with several regional producers and the response was very encouraging. As such, we will be participating in this show again in 2012.

We now seek final expressions of interest from EMT members wishing to join with EMT and participate in this opportunity.

Please send expressions of interest to ingrid@echucamoama.com no later than 5pm 7TH September 2011.

EMT Public Meeting

On 24 May, EMT called a public meeting to inform all members and the community at large about the dire financial position we were facing. All attendees were advised that an immediate cash injection was required to ‘keep EMT afloat’ until 30 June. The response to our plea was overwhelming and enough money was raised within one week from this meeting to ensure EMT remained a going concern.

The majority of these funds were raised by existing members. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your enormous generosity and support as we focus on building a viable and sustainable business model from 1 July.

It was also encouraging to receive financial support from non-members who now recognise the importance of what EMT delivers to our community.
The new membership prospectus will be distributed at the end of this week. Membership will be for a six month period only for 2 main reasons –

1. EMT is working with Tourism Vic, Tourism NSW, Shire of
Campaspe and Murray Shire to create a new strategic
marketing plan for our region. Our goal is to engage a
consultant over the next few weeks so that a 3 year
marketing strategy and new membership program can roll
out as of 1 January; and

2. Our members have been asking us for a number of years
to move renewal dates away from the new financial year
in order to assist with better cash flow.
Thank you once again for your support.

The show generated great interest and we managed to distribute approximately 1,000 brochures.

EMT Flood Campaign Update

The Melbourne metro radio campaign on 3AW, Fox and Magic has now ended. The campaign was titled ‘’Echuca Moama Is Open For Business’’. To the best of our knowledge our region was the only Murray region out in the market so hopefully this will count for something. We have been advised that the Victorian Government will shortly be making an announcement regarding a state wide $1M marketing campaign to further assist and underpin EMT’s $12,000.00 campaign (It is a lot to us!) In particular we are hopeful the campaign will also provide some media grunt for Riverboat Jazz Food & Wine and Southern 80 events.

Air Access

This long term project continues to move forward with the decision now having been made to progress from the feasibility study to the business study stage. You will have received a questionnaire recently seeking information from you regarding proposed commercial air services. This is an important component of the next stage as it will provide us with an indication of commitment from the region. It is very important you take a minute to fill it out and return it please.

Flood Recovery Campaign Update

We anticipate that next week there will be an announcement regarding an excellent Victorian Government initiative to launch a tourism recovery strategy. We will keep you informed as to progress. This initiative will allow us to continue and develop our self generated ‘’Echuca Moama Is Open For Business’’ campaign.

Murray Board Update

The newly formed Murray Board has now appointed Mr Phil Nunn. The position will commence on the 16th February and we look forward to hearing their vision for the Murray regions.

Web Site iPhone Smart

Consumers are increasingly using their mobiles to gather information. We have just launched a mobile phone user friendly version of the www.echucamoama.com web site. This will now allow users to access the web site in a compatible easy to read and navigate format. The telephone number has been set up in a one click manner so that iPhone and other mobile device users can call our toll free number directly with one touch of their screen.
EMT has now well and truly completed its journey into the 21st century!!

Cellar Door Farm Gate Promotion

This big opportunity to showcase the regions food, wine and produce at the first weekend of the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival is now completed and ready to go. This event is a first for our region and virtually thousands of people are going to experience a side to our region that many had never recognized existed. We will also be distributing the regional holiday planner guide at the festival from our stand.

River Boat Jazz Food & Wine Festival

This fantastic festival is nearly upon us with a new look, great bands and it will be a seriously fantastic weekend! Please tell your friends and family to come and enjoy this wonderful festival and show your support for the handful of organizers that make these festivals happen.

Co-operative Advertising Opportunities

We recently released advertising opportunities for the Sun Herald Escape, Age Epicure and Age Traveller sections. This is a lot exposure and we are pleased to advise that all opportunities have sold out. Thank you to all EMT Members who have supported this co-operative campaign.

I Do I Do (Bendigo Wedding Expo)

EMT has yet again partnered up with the Echuca Wedding Group for this show in Bendigo.
We are delighted with the responses we have been receiving off the back of all the effort that we have put into this sector over the past year. Requests from consumers for holiday planners and wedding guides are at an all time high.

Adelaide Caravan & Camping Show

We are off to Adelaide again to staff a stand at this important Adelaide show. We have shipped 1 ton of brochures to Adelaide as last year we ran out with one day to go. South Australia is an important market for us and as such we invest money, time and effort in representing our region in Adelaide.

Travel Xpo

EMT is attending this major consumer travel show in Melbourne on the 19th & 20th March. There are only 2 spots left if you are interested in major representation at the show. EMT are staffing the stand and will be distributing the holiday planner and answering any and all questions that consumers may have regarding our region.

EMT Staff

Please note that both Ingrid and Simon will be away at various shows and events from the 19th February returning to the office Monday 28th February. Should you require contact during that time please do not hesitate to contact on 0417 608 986.

H20 Survival Concert

Thank You to all the volunteers who worked so hard in the recent floods in the region and the Echuca Workers & Services Club for supporting this event by donating their venue and staff for the evening. This is not a fundraising event but strictly a fun night to recognise the work of the volunteers. This event will be free entry for anyone who wants to attend.

Flood event summary

EMT is very much aware of the hardship that this natural event has caused to many in our region and in particular to the community of Rochester, an event that has been fuelled by considerable inaccurate reporting in the media far and wide.

However it has been the ‘’perception’’ with respect to media reporting that we have had to deal with rather than the ‘’reality’’ with respect to the affects of most tourism stakeholders.
With limited resources EMT has delivered the following marketing activity to try and reduce the effects and to re-ignite consumer interest in our region as fast as possible.

Commenced a concerted radio campaign in Melbourne on stations 3AW, FOX FM and Magic FM (top 3 rating stations) on Saturday 22nd January. The theme is ‘’Echuca Moama Open For Business’’ with the call to action being the web site www.echucamoama.com

This in turn leads them to a position statement, the river camera and of course all of our accommodation, activities and attractions.

We have placed a copy of the commercial on the web site if you would like to listen to it. We have received good feedback on the campaign with business hopefully slowly picking up.

I would personally like to thank the Echuca Moama Accommodation Association (EMAA) for their tremendous support by donating $5,000.00 to the campaign and the Attractions Association for their contribution.

WOTIF Announces Annual Ranking

WOTIF.COM today released the rankings for the top 10 most popular destinations in Victoria based on bookings via their popular website.
Melbourne was again placed number 1 with Echuca Moama in the top 5. It is interesting to note that Mildura was up from 9th last year to 6th and Bendigo dropping from 8th to 10th.
This is the second consecutive year that Echuca Moama has achieved this ranking and we are thrilled by the result, particularly considering that all of the top 9 have considerably more resources than EMT and that we have had several natural challenges over the past 3 months.

Australian Bridal Show

We attended the show for the two days at the Melbourne Exhibition Buildings and distributed the Holiday Planner and the Echuca Wedding Guide. We managed to only return home with 4 brochures! The feedback that we have received from participating in these shows has been very good. Over the past year these type of shows have delivered us the best numbers, a fact further supported by record requests for additional wedding enquiries from the Echuca office. Thank you to the Echuca Moama Wedding Group for partnering up with us on these shows.

Upcoming Shows

Over the next couple of months Echuca Moama will be attending the following trade and consumer shows:
• Cellar Door To Farm Gate Show, Southbank, Melbourne
• Travel Xpo, Melbourne

Friday 31st December 2010

Club Marine Southern 80 to move ahead as planned

The 2011 Club Marine Southern 80, one of Australia’s largest regional events, will
be held from 11 – 13 February 2011. Competitor numbers are stronger than this time last
year, a number of new key sponsors have been secured and the entertainment offering at
the finish line in 2011 will be much broader than previous events to attract additional families.

Earlier this week, the organisers of the Murray Marathon were forced to make some
logistical changes to their event which is starting next week. On this back of this news,
there have been some suggestions that the Club Marine Southern 80 will be
postponed, if not cancelled.

General Manager of Echuca Moama Events, Pete White, said ‘It is important that
we quash the speculation about whether the event will in fact be held. The water
level peaked on Tuesday morning at 92.6m and there has been a slow, but steady
decline since. Lengthy discussions have been held with various authorities over the
past couple of days and from all reports and forecasts, the river will still be high
in 7 weeks but not to the detriment of the event. We will continue to work with these
authorities over coming weeks to assess whether the water level places our
competitors at any greater risk, but as it stands, the Club Marine Southern 80 will
be held on the scheduled weekend’.

Shire of Campaspe Mayor Neil Pankhurst acknowledged that the event is a key
major event for the region, one which attracts many competitors and spectators.
"We will continue to work with the Southern 80 committee in preparation of this year's
event and no doubt the river will be quite different to that experienced by past
competitors."

We are proud of our achievements this year and could not have delivered the results if not for the tremendous support of our Members, the Campaspe and Murray Shire Councils and to a small group of extraordinary supporters such as EMAA, the Clubs, Tourism Victoria, Parks Victoria and specific interest groups that have financially supported projects that have historically been beyond reach.
Thank you for the support as simply put none of the major projects would have been possible without that support.

On a personal note I would also like to thank the EMT/EME staff (we are only three remember). Thank you to Pete White for sharing the vision and delivering every time!
Thank you also to Ingrid Ruff for the fantastic support to both Pete and myself.
